STARSAT PRESENTS ~ POINT OF ORDER

image

StarSat’s Point of Order and Puppet Nation Garner 10 SAFTA Nominations in Total.

Against this exciting backdrop of receiving two
SAFTA nominations, StarSat is proud to present
Point of Order, Season 2, launching on Saturday
1st April on ST One, channel 120.

Point of Order is a comedy panel show based on the
controversies within the South African parliament, hosted by Madam Speaker, the brilliant Tumi Morake. The show allows for SA’s
top comedians to introduce important and vital new laws, like singing in the shower, should feature 90% local content, and gives special guests a chance to talk… well politics, almost
like real MP’s do – perhaps with only a little more
sensibility. Above all they want to win the favour
of Madam Speaker, who rules over the Government and Opposition benches.

With just one season to its name the nominations in the “Best Game Show” and “Best Presenter” categories are an honour for StarSat.

Commenting on the nominations, Head of
Content at StarSat, David Makubyane said, “We
are very excited to have these premium shows
on the StarSat platform. The calibre of both these shows sets StarSat apart in the comedy category. Given their popularity, we are confident that they will bring home the coveted awards.”

KEEPING UP WITH THE KANDASAMY’S A BOX OFFICE HIT

image

KEEPING UP WITH THE KANDASAMYS BREAKS R1.6 MILLION AT BOX OFFICE!
The popular film, Keeping up with the Kandasamys, has raked in a remarkable R1.6 million at the box office on opening weekend (3 March 2017), with an attendance of nearly 30 000 people. The film opened at number 3 on the Top 10 after Logan: The Wolverine and Fifty Shades Darker.
Keeping up with the Kandasamys was produced by the award-winning duo, Helena Spring and the late Junaid Ahmed (who sadly passed away in November 2016).
“Seeing the feel-good impact of Keeping up with the Kandasamys on audiences, as it celebrates family values with humour and laughter, has been a wonderful experience and I’m both thrilled and thankful for the tremendous support cinema goers are giving the film. Even though the film celebrates Indian culture and identity, the characters remain relatable across all racial and cultural lines, connecting with the audiences own familial experiences,” says Spring.
This rib-tickling, two-sided family comedy affair, was directed by Durban filmmaker Jayan Moodley (White Gold) and co-written by Moodley and Rory Booth.
“This film has something for everyone. The universal story of neighbourhood rivalry, our desperate need for acceptance and the climb for perceived societal success, is something which touches everyone the world over. At the end of the day we can all recognize our quirks and foibles and the funny side of the weird, wonderful and strangely competitive world we live in,” adds Moodley.
Keeping up with the Kandasamys promises audiences some truly funny laughs about families, relationships and neighbourhood-envy.
The film was produced in association with The National Film and Video Foundation, The Kwazulu Natal Film Commission, M-Net and The DTI , with distribution by Ster-Kinekor Entertainment.
It features music by Kyle Deutsch and The Parlotones. The film is currently showing at selected theatres nationwide.
Set in Chatsworth, KEEPING UP WITH THE KANDASAMYS opens a window into the lifestyle and subculture of modern-day Indian South Africans; their aspirations, dreams and challenges.
“I loved shooting this film on location in Chatsworth. It’s an iconic place, like District Six or Soweto. It’s vibrant, lively and spirited, and I believe we have managed to not only capture its idiosyncrasies but also its heart and soul that will make global audiences fall in love with it too, over a barrel full of laughs,” says director Jayan Moodley about her debut film.
The film stars Jailoshini Naidoo (Eastern Mosaic, Lotus FM) and Maeshni Naicker (Broken Promises) as the matriarchal rivals of neighbouring families, whose young adult children become romantically involved, and despite their best efforts to keep them apart, they are forced to acknowledge that in the end love will always prevail.
Shanti Naidoo (Maeshni Naicker) is a typical Type-A personality. Always on the move, going out of her way to please people, and overcompensating for her perceived inadequacies by continually cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Her life would be just fine, except that her neighbour, Jennifer Kandasamy (Jailoshini Naidoo), always seems to hold the upper hand.
When Jennifer realises her beautiful tomboy daughter, Jodi (Mishqah Parthiephal), is in love with Shanti’s son Prinesh (Madhushan Singh) – a sensitive medical student, she is determined to break them up. But in order to do that she will have to enlist her rival’s help.
Other cast include names Rajesh Gopie, Koobeshan Naidoo, Mariam Bassa and Neil Govender.

RIAAD MOOSA IN LIFE BEGINS ❤❤

image

They say “life begins at 40”…

Riaad Moosa invites along audiences around South Africa to his brand new one-man show, Life Begins, to join in figuring out whether life really does begin at 40.

“Even though I am turning 40 this year, in many ways, I feel like I’m still crawling and I’m looking back at my journey from being an aspirational doctor, coming from a relatively conservative Muslim background, where both my parents were doctors, and how I actually journeyed to becoming a stand-up comedian,” says Riaad.

As an award-winning comedian, actor, writer and presenter, Riaad Moosa is one of South Africa’s most popular and acclaimed funny men and he happens to be a qualified medical doctor too.  Known as the “Comedy Doctor”, he certainly seems to have the remedy for the nation’s ills – a healthy dose of laughter, straight up – and hold the aspirin!

image

Life Begins is a snapshot into the life of Riaad Moosa – being a father of three kids, a husband, comedian, actor and with all the current cultural and political issues thrown in.

The show has seen sold-out audiences at the Golden Arrow Studio in Cape Town – with the run ending on 25 February – and due to popular demand, an additional week from 2 to 6 May has been added to the Baxter Theatre.  Riaad will also be visiting The Ridge Casino (Witbank) on 4 March; Patidar Hall (Lenasia) on 10 March; Silverstar Casino (Krugersdorp) on 11 March and 25 March at Emperors Palace with Riaad Moosa & Friends.

“The show is very philosophical and existential.  It involves the normal issues of getting older while at the same time experiencing, at a maturity where I’m supposed to be wise, a world that is completely turned on its head – with Trump, with Brexit; In South Africa, the ‘State Capture’, ‘Fees Must Fall’, ‘DOOM’.  And it’s about how I negotiate all these things happening around me while trying to maintain a positive attitude.  Through my comedic lens, I hope to put a different spin on that and hopefully I can enter my next 40 years with renewed vigour and excitement,” Moosa adds.

Get your prescription of laughter with Riaad Moosa’s side-splittingly funny one-man show, Life Begins.

The show is rated PG for Language.  Tickets range from R150 and can be purchased at Computicket or at the respective venues’ box offices.  For more information on Riaad’s upcoming shows, visit http://www.riaadmoosa.co.za.

image

I am still truly amazed at the John Frieda products and how it makes my hair look and feel absolutely gorgeous. So when rubybox sent me my drop, I was ecstatic. I am a dark brunette and these products work wonders for me, bringing out my hair colour.

I got to test and try both John Frieda’S Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper and Visibly Brighter Shampoo and Conditioner ❤

The Visibly Deeper Shampoo creates a deeper, richer, more lustrous colour. It is formulated with cocoa and promise oil. It cleanses and infuses deep brunette tones. The conditioner intensifies deep, rich, lustrous tones while you hydrate. It enhances dark tones.

The Visibly Brighter Shampoo gives your brunette hair a natural-looking, illuminating glow. It is  formulated with honey and marigold flower extract. It also gradually infuses golden tones to illuminate your brunette colour. The conditioner, hydrates your hair with a natural-looking, illuminating glow. It gradually illuminates brunette tones.

Both are Ammonia and Peroxide free so no need to worry about using it  on colour-treated hair.

The proof is in the
pudding 🙂

TUMI MORAKE IN TUMI OR NOT TUMI – SA TOUR ♡♡

image

“There are people who have heard of Tumi Morake, there are people who have seen Tumi Morake but there are many that don’t actually know Tumi Morake.  They are finally going to meet her.” – Tumi Morake

Tumi Morake is taking her comedy to the people.  Embarking on her first official South African tour, Tumi will be entertaining audiences from Nelspruit to Cape Town with her hilarious one-woman show, Tumi or Not Tumi.

The show follows her journey as she tries to find herself in the schizophrenia of motherhood, wifehood and South African-hood amidst being the Queen of Comedy.

Tumi Morake made history in 2016 by being the first female to be crowned Comic of the Year at the 6th annual Savannah Comic’s Choice Awards and she’s not ready to give up that crown just yet.

“After 10 years in the industry, it’s crazy that I have never done a South African tour.  Well, the time has finally arrived. The comedy industry in this country has grown so much in terms of offerings and demand. South Africans seem to have an insatiable appetite for it and hopefully I can whet their tastebuds with this new show,” says Tumi.

Raw and unapologetic, the show promises to be thought provoking and provide a glimpse of what life could be like if we made a little effort – putting us all, and herself, under the spotlight.

Since beginning her career in 2006, Tumi has steadily grown into one of SA’s most sought after comedians, with numerous nominations and awards under her belt, including receiving the 2016 YOU Spectacular Award for Best Comedian of the Year.

image

A formidable force in the industry, some highlights of her career include being the first woman to host Comedy Central Presents on African soil and ticking off a bucket list item – taking her first one-woman show to the famed Edinburgh Festival in Scotland in 2013.

Tumi spent two seasons on the judging panel of etv’s She’s The One and host of the ever trending Our Perfect Wedding for a record 3 seasons after a public demand for her return.  2017 sees Tumi hosting her own shows on SABC – Red Cake and the second season of Point Of Order.

Beyond her comedy, the multitasking Tumi has been the face of many major campaigns and 2017 brings with it new and exciting prospects including being named the brand ambassador for Jaguar Landrover Menlyn.

Tumi Morake will be the name that everyone is talking about.
